Keeping your website safe is important to us, and backups are a key part of that. Think of a backup like a copy of all your important website stuff - files, settings, even emails. If something unexpected happens, like a website glitch or data loss, you can use the backup to restore your website quickly and get back to business.
Automatic offsite backups are included with all our hosting plans. However, to stay extra cautious, it's always a good idea to create your own backups as well. This simple step helps ensure your website stays safe and secure. We recommend using reliable offsite third-party backup services such as, but not limited to CodeGuard, Jetpack, etc for this.
It's important to know that even though we backup your files, it's not guaranteed to always be available. That's why having your own backups is super important. The good news is, our control panel makes it easy for you to download and restore your own backups whenever you need them. Just keep in mind that backups from those third-party services can't be used for every single situation.
By taking control of your backups, you're taking a big step towards keeping your website safe.
Servers (Cloud and VPS)
- Backups aren't included automatically when you buy a server. You can add them on as an extra service for a fee.
- For Cloud Hosting, backups happen weekly and include everything on your server: databases, emails, files, applications, etc. These backups are stored in the same data center as your server and kept for four weeks.
- For Virtual Private Servers, you can buy extra storage and set up your own backups, and we'll help you get started.
- If you pay for backups on an active server, you can restore your entire server to any point within the last four weeks. However, you can't restore just a part of your server, as the backup is complete.
- It's up to you to make sure you have older backups stored somewhere else, because backups are overwritten after a month. We can't guarantee these backups will always be available for restoring your website or data.
- Terminated servers are permanently deleted, including all their content.
- No backups are made for servers that don't have the paid service.
Web Hosting
- We back up your web hosting regularly (daily). This includes all our web hosting plans, like Shared Hosting, WordPress Hosting, and more.
- You can also manage backups yourself if you used Softaculous to install your applications. Our control panel lets you create, download, and restore backups, but you can only keep a few (5 backups or 15% of your storage space).
- We can restore your account from our backups anytime as long as your account is active. If your account is suspended for non-payment, you'll need to renew it first. For terminated accounts, backups are overwritten weekly, so contact us to see if a backup is still available.
- We recommend using a separate backup service like CodeGuard or Jetpack for extra security.

Business Email
- If you use our webmail or email clients that keep messages on our server (IMAP), we can back up your messages for 7 days (available only with business email hosting). However, if you use a program that deletes messages from our server when you read them (POP), we can't restore them because your device has the only copy.
- To access a backup of a suspended account, you'll need to renew it first. Backups are deleted after 7 days of termination. Restoring a terminated account requires an additional fee per email address. Before paying to restore a terminated account, contact us at billing[at]mokohhost.com to confirm the backup still exists. This will save you time and money.
Changes to this Backup Policy
We may occasionally update our Backup Policy. Any changes will be communicated by posting the updated Backup Policy on this page. In addition, we will notify you through email and/or with a noticeable announcement on our service before the changes take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this Backup Policy will also be revised accordingly. It is recommended to check this page regularly for updates, as changes become effective once posted here.
